From God With Love

10-02-2016
Diamonds are formed at great depths in the Earth under great temperature and pressure.  They are the hardest natural material known, and as such, they are not given to impurities.  This causes them to be very valuable.  Diamonds are also useful due to their durability.  That is what we are to be to Christ: valuable and useful.  We need to have spiritual depth who can go through the great pressures of life and allow those pressures to make us more valuable.  We are not to be subject to the impurities of life.  And we are to be people that are useful to Jesus Christ.  That is what the book of Colossians is about.

Taste Test

9-25-2016
Do you remember the Pepsi challenge from years ago?  People were blindfolded and then they tasted both Pepsi and Coke.  And in the commercials they always chose Pepsi.  They would prefer one taste over another taste.  And today as we observe the Lord’s Supper we get the same opportunity.  It gives us the opportunity to prefer Jesus Christ and the taste of Him.  And to prefer Him over every other taste in the world.

Involved

9-18-2016
Did you know that four out of 10 Americans feel an intense sense of loneliness.  Do you ever feel that way?  You may have a lot of friends but you may not have any real relationships.  In our world today we have all of this social media.  And on social media you can have thousands of friends, but all of those “friends” don’t really know you at all.  We can have all of our friends on social media but it is more and more at the expense of deep, meaningful, shaping friendships.  There are four areas of our life where we need to be involved relationally.  We all need to be involved with God, with our family, with people who are not Christians, and with other Christians.  If you are going to put Christ first in your life it is going to mean that there will have to be some solid, legitimate, authentic, Christian relationships in your life.  So how do we do that?  What goes into Christian involvement and fellowship?  And why should I get involved?

Taking God Seriously

9-11-2016
In 1 Timothy 4:7-8 Paul says, “Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”  He says you must train yourself to be godly. In the Christian life, We step into the ring of life every day.  But before you step into the ring, you’ve got to prepare and train.
In this series we are talking about putting God first in everything.  The verses above give us a command.  The command is that we are to take God seriously. That is what godliness is.  To train in Godliness is the idea to make God the daily pursuit of our life and that we have a daily craving to be like Him.  We are to become more and more like Jesus Christ every day.  That means we need to train ourselves and be self-disciplined.  So how do we do this?  Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 10.

Priorities

8-28-2016
If you are going to live successfully, your priorities must be straight.  On one occasion Jesus told a parable about priorities.  There were two brothers who were eaten up with greed and Jesus told this parable in Luke 12:16-21.
“The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
God must take the first priority in our lives.  In this message we look at what the apostle Paul shared with Christians in Thessalonica about priorities to answer the question, “What are four major priorities for living successfully?”
